Off to the coast this weekend

We just got home from a great birthday dinner with my parents, JA’s parents (mom & stepdad), ChloĆ© & Scott and Miriam at Australian Pizza Kitchen in Civic. SO YUM. Very full now. JA and I both got half/half pizzas so we could share and have 4 different kinds of pizza each =) We had [...]

Garden Landscaping: Front-Side Area

I’ve come to the conclusion that if I wait until all my projects are totally finished before posting about them, you won’t see any of the landscaping or renovating I’m doing for the next 10 years… Nothing is ever finished! Especially as I’m doing everything in little stages, I’ve started on many areas that won’t [...]

Creating a path to our front door DIY, part 1

Our front yard is rather large so to manage the landscaping of the whole yard I’ve broken it down into smaller areas that I plan to tackle one at a time. Unfortunately because of budget restraints I usually start a project then run out of money to buy everything I need, so a lot of [...]

My own little floriade

A little while ago I posted about planting bulbs in my garden and watching them grow, and the other day I went out and took a few more snaps of the blooms, as they are really coming out now! Unfortunately the dogs have been getting in and stomping all over everything, so I had to [...]

Landscaping a small area takes a lot of effort

Especially when dogs are involved. They like to help by digging up newly planted plants and making a big mess in general…

The photos below are of a little area that is between the main part of the backyard and the carport, which can be seen from the kitchen window. The wheelie bins sit by the wall of the shed, so when we’re doing anything in the kitchen the view is of the garbage bins. Not really the best view!

I’m really happy with this project because although I did purchase a few things (trellis, start pickets, plants) I was able to re-use a lot of things already on hand (sleepers, stakes, bamboo edging) instead of taking them to the tip!

How to plant and raise bulbs, without killing them!

I am not known for my green thumb. Usually when I buy pot plants or they are given to me, they either get eaten up by doggies because I leave it too long to replant them into the garden, or I replant them and they die. For various reasons – lack of water, lack of sunshine, lack of air… it’s not like I’m smothering them with a pillow for goodness sake, what is wrong with these plants??

But all is not lost!

Continue reading to see how I managed to plant and raise a fantastic little garden of lovely bulbs and seeds.
