This June long weekend came as welcome surprise to me, and I’m very happy to say I did lots of relaxing but also lots of little projects too!
Firstly, just a couple of jobs around the house I’ve been meaning to do for a long time… The floating shelves in our bedroom were totally wonky and occasionally the photo frames would just slide right off. I thought there was something wrong with the brackets, so I bit the bullet and bought visible brackets to prop the shelves up from underneath.
But when I removed the shelf from the original bracket, it became clear I just did a very shoddy job in the first place (probably as a result of being too weak to drill into a stud or something, getting cranky and giving up) and hadn’t put enough screws in! So I was very happy that I could fix the shelves with a few extra screws and not have an ugly bracket showing. I did only get one of two done though, so the next one is on the list for next weekend.
I also finally nailed in the carpet floor strip thingers, which took no time at all but I had to get a hacksaw to cut off the ends to make them fit, so they’ve been lying around for about 2 weeks.

I also started a DIY project featuring the plastic chair below, that I rescued from the dumpster at work. I’m working with enamel paint in 5ºC weather though, so it’s going to be a bit of a long process with slow drying times. Should be all done and ready to reveal by next weekend!

For Mikaela Handmade I’ve been brainstorming (with JA and his mom) some other home decor products I could create with the gorgeous Japanese Yuzen papers I use in my magnets and badges. I was thinking about the patterns on the paper and also the shape of a blossom paper punch I have, and thought wouldn’t it be cute to make a clock in the shape of a blossom and cover it in the paper! I’m almost finished, I just have to coat it with resin to make it nice and glossy which I’ll do sometime this week. I don’t have a jigsaw yet so cut it all out by hand with a hacksaw, it took forever!

Getting back to house stuff, after I did a coat of paint on the chair and while the brush was still wet, I decided to do just a little bit of the final coat of paint on our interior trims in the hallway. This is an ongoing project that we keep putting off again and again because it’s SO BORING but also time consuming! I figure if I just do a little bit at a time it wont be so tedious and it will get finished eventually…

I also tidied up the laundry (I know, exciting news!). But this is a very good thing, because as I mentioned briefly a couple of weeks ago, I plan to do a laundry makeover for about $100. I was getting a bit overwhelmed with all the clothes and sheets piling up and realised by reading this post that one of the problems might have been that I just hated the actual laundry room. But now I’ve cleared everything out (and done some washing along the way) I have a plan. It involves lots of white paint (which we already have), some DIY cabinetry (I’ll need some luck on this one), and cheap fabric. I think it will look amazing, and I promise not to spend over $100. Scheduled for next weekend, stay tuned =P

And last but not least, I edited a couple of photos that have been sitting in my “to-do” tray forever. One is my good friend from school Aimee (hotsie totsie!) and the other is Pep, from the Juno photo shoot I did a while ago.

I did still manage to fit some procrastination into the weekend by doing some online window shopping. This dress by ASOS has been open in my browser since yesterday, I really want it. We’ll see if I give in to temptation or not…
To cap off a great weekend (I didn’t even mention all the worldcup watching we’ve been doing!), husband baked muffins tonight for dessert. He reckons he doesn’t need me now since he can bake yummy stuff all by himself haha.

I hope your weekends were as great as mine =D

Awesome! You did heaps! I also achieved a lot.. need to sit down and crack out a post tonight :)
