// hello

Thursday to Tuesday

Well gosh, what a week! Busy busy bee I have been =)

Drinking Responsibly

Drinking Responsibly

Thursday was graduation, which meant spending most of the working day organising the set up. As the “decorating” team, we decided to go with student artwork as the backdrop instead of just bunches of flowers, and most people agreed it looked really effective. Then it was off to play soccer in 37 degree heat (fun!), but luckily the other team didn’t show so we didn’t have to play. So I quickly got changed and went back to graduation, where everything was just finishing up. Then the fun began!

About 40 teachers went to the Uni Pub for dinner, which is pretty nice food (cheap at least), and catering to the younger crowd, they had $2 drinks from 9pm. This made up for the $12 cocktails I had with dinner! Suffice to say, the crowd that kicked on were pleasantly sozzled (always drinking responsibly of course – no one who drank, drove). A group of us went to Muddle Bar for intelligent chatter, then eventually made our way to Mooseheads for a boogie, which was a lot of fun.

Friday however, was a bit of a struggle! Luckily the only thing planned at work was the Christmas lunch, which was yummo, cold meats, salads, bread… but absolutely nothing else got done that day. Miri and I sat at our desks like zombies, occasionally jumping up to re-enact funny moments of the night for everyone in our staffroom who weren’t there. Natalie said they’re going to take up a collection so we can go out each week, just to be able to entertain them with re-enactments and stories the next day =P But I hardly ever EVER go out on the town, the last time I did was my hens night, and we got married in March! Not really a party animal, this one.

JA’s sister Erin is down from Newcastle at the moment, she initially came for just a few days because as a Nurse was going to have to work just before and just after Christmas day, but the day before she got here, she got Chicken Pox! So she may be staying for Christmas after all, as the ward she works in is very immune deficient and they can’t risk catching an infection from her. On Saturday we went to the Kingston Markets with JA’s mom and other sister Katie, and had a good look around. I of course was on a reconnaissance mission, checking out how all the stalls were set up and seeing how much product everyone had, research for holding a stall there next year. It was a little intimidating! I also got a few little pressies for people so that was good.

Saturday afternoon I went to an afternoon tea at a work colleagues house, which was lovely. Her baby is just about 2 years old and is absolutely gorgeous, I had a fun time playing with her on the floor. Practicing not to speak in high-pitched baby voice! I’m pretty well tamed now, it get’s tiring otherwise.

Sunday was supposed to be my niece’s 4th birthday party, but the time and venue changed so I wasn’t able to go, because it was also Mum’s birthday, so we went with our good friend Sophie to the Hyatt for afternoon tea, which was really lovely. I say lovely a lot, but this was REALLY lovely! The weather was gorgeous, we sat outside in the courtyard under a big tree in the shade and had devonshire tea (tea with scones, jam and cream), YUMMO!

I’ve decided that I’d really like to do something similar for our anniversary, afternoon tea with the girls, then cocktails with some close friends and stay a night at the Hyatt with JA for our 1 year anniversary.

Sunday evening was “early Christmas” with JA’s family for Erin (though Katie didn’t make it), where we had a yummy dinner, hung the ornaments on the tree and just chilled out. Poor Erin at this point was still itching like crazy from the pox, so it wasn’t very fun for her, but luckily by the next day she was already improving. Girds and Harley got aquainted with Max, the new kitten, and we enjoyed watching them all play together.

Turtle tank, nice and clean

Turtle tank, nice and clean

Monday (yesterday) was a long long day! We got up early to take my car to get serviced in Belconnen, and went to a nearby café to have some breakfast (counting it as a date!). We then went to the Mall to look at a few things (getting a laptop, a printer/scanner, vacuum cleaner and my Chrissy present), then JA dropped me into work so I could do some sort of planning. I was quite productive with no one there to distract me =) Still a lot more to do though. When he picked me up again we went to get my car and it wasn’t ready, so we hung around for a bit longer, got a new pump for the turtle tank, got some more wooden pavers for out the back and just sat around waiting. When we finally got home, he put the new filter in the tank and we cleaned it all out, now they are happy turtles. In the evening JA’s dad and Erin came over for dinner and to watch top gear, which topped off a very full and productive day =)

My button machine arrived, YAY!

My button machine arrived, YAY!

And today, bright and early, the postman came with my button machine!!! I’m so excited to start using it to make lots of pretty buttons and magnets, I will of course take pictures of the process. In an hour I’m going to meet my good friend Katie for lunch, then mosey around the mall for a bit (last minute xmas shopping still to do, JA guessed one of his presents! So I want to get something little as a surprise now). It’s going to be a stinker of a day so he’s going to do lots of loads of washing (good house-husband ♥) and I’ll tidy up a bit more of my craft stuff this afternoon. Then tonight is his step-dad’s birthday dinner, so more family fun!

Tomorrow is “tip day”, we’re going to clean up the backyard in time for a boxing day bbq, and I’m going to bake the handmade goodies for the male presents, then on thursday I have to go with my mum to have our family doggie put down, which will be quite sad, but it’s definitely time, she’s very old. Lots of things happening, not really much house or DIY stuff, but I’ll have plenty of time for that in January =)

Stay tuned!

  1. [...] Exactly a year ago I posted about Grad Night, and this years celebrations didn’t disappoint. Grad night is fast becoming the one night a year the teachers go out and party (responsibly, of course) after the Year 12′s Graduation Ceremony. It was a lot of fun, and probably my last night out with Miri-moo before she jets off overseas *sniff* so we made the most of it. Bish doing his best Duckface Me and my Miri-face! Bish & Miri [...]
