I don't think tattoos need to be "tough" or "scary"...besides, what's tough or scary to one person may not be to another. What's important is that they mean something to you and that you like them...after all, you're the one that has to wear it for the rest of your life. ;) I do have some tattoos, and I plan to get more as soon as it's feasible. I have a half sleeve on my left arm which will be a full sleeve eventually, a large piece on my lower back, the knuckles of both hands are done, and some other random pieces here and there (if you are curious, there are pictures here: http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=2010354&id=1431946882&l=c865e00060). I got my first tattoo at 16. I was one of those kids who always wanted tattoos, and I used to get in trouble at my Catholic school for drawing on myself! ;) Luckily for me, my husband loves tattoos and has quite a few himself. My mother is not a fan, however, and has never really approved of me getting tattooed, although she does seem to like a couple of them. I like your tattoos!
