2009 Soccer Finals

It’s that time of year: finals fever. Battling through the cold Canberra winter night trainings and trekking halfway to Cooma for southside games, we are finally at the pinnacle of the the competition.

JA plays his grand final game today for his team Canberra Olympic, against their arch-rivals ANU. Last year they were undefeated the whole season only to be knocked out in the semis by the ANU side. This year they managed to beat them in the pre-lim semis 2 weeks ago, and are now meeting them again after ANU beat the pants off of the Tuggernanong team last week 5-0. JA’s team have already taken our the minor premiers trophy (coming top of the competition in the normals rounds), hopefully they can make it a double whammy and get the trophy today too!

My team had a rocky start but fought back hard through the season to almost steal the minor premiership from the top team, but in the end came third in the normal rounds. Tomorrow we have our semi finals against Tuggeranong, if we win we’re through to the grand final, if we lose we’re out of it altogether. I’m retiring from soccer after this season (for babies and what-not, I’ll probably play again in the future), so I’d really like to win the grand final and go out on a high. We’ll see what happens!

For photos of JA’s semi final, see my flikr account. Photos of the grand final will be up soon.
