Today was a very productive day for DIY projects! Early this morning I went to Bunnings and got a whole bunch of stuff I needed to do things around the house, including cupboard door knobs, brackets, dowel, a plant, rope, plastic containers, plastic shelving, a nail punch, rubber feet, a memory box frame, 2 outdoor tables, organic pest spray, a lamp shade… that’s all I can remember! So as soon as I got home I got stuck into a few different jobs, the first being to re-vamp a little lamp I have. All it needed was a lick of paint and a new lamp shade. The end product is not actually to my liking, not really my style (a bit pink!) but it’s still pretty and I’ll put it in the spare room for when guests come.
The next job to tackle was the pantry. This wasn’t a DIY job, just a sorting and tidying job. I chucked out a bunch of expired jars and tins (out by years!) and realised our pantry is actually really big! There’s lots of space now. The before and after photos convince me that I need to cover up the orange though, it’s hideous. I bought some plastic containers to group food together so it wouldn’t be spilling all over the shelves like in the before photo, and now JA knows where to chuck stuff when he’s unpacking the groceries. I might even make some little tags, just for fun. Stay tuned for anotehr “after” photo, minus the 70’s orange wallpaper on the shelves.
And finally, the turtle tank cupboard! This in an in-build cupboard where we keep all our dvd’s and turtle tank accessories. There were two in the living room when we moved in, recently I got rid of one, and let me tell you, that thing was a bitch to get out. They are really sturdy and heavy, and bolted together (and to the wall) like you wouldn’t believe. So this one is staying, for at least the next 10 years until major renovations are done. But I didn’t like the colour of the wood, and the little alcove had no front to it (it was made for a record player) so it looked messy when there was stuff in there.
3 coats of paint later, a front to the drawer and new handles, and ta-da! I like it now =)
- Paint black bookshelf and put in Study (clear of study cupboards)
- Paint wooden bookshelf
- Rip up hallway carpets and start counter-sinking nails
Wish me luck!
