Since going around to open houses last weekend with Chloé (as moral support) and getting some ideas, I’ve been getting a bit excited and playing in Google Sketchup with ideas for our extension/renovation plans. This won’t be happening for awhile yet (need to wait til there’s more equity in the house) but I like to plan things in advance. No kidding I hear a bunch of you say…

And here’s what I’ve been playing with, new master bedroom with ensuite (no walk in robe, I just can’t make it work with the other elements I want), new garage (maybe carport instead to save some $$), extend living room out and replace side windows with new glass front doors (changing the entry from the lower left side of the house in this picture to the lower right side, on the driveway side of the house), and add a nice big new front veranda/deck. Out the back then we would also have a nice big deck/entertaining area.

I’m also going through lots of websites such as archicentre.com.au and yourhome.gov.au and reading recommendations from ACTPLA about how to best design and renovate to make the house more energy efficient. The obvious things we are doing include solar panels, a big rain tank, and shading relevant windows, along with a lot of other things too. I hope to blog about the whole process when we eventually get started!
