I had a great idea the other day for an eerie DIY decoration for hallowing, re-using vases and submersible floralytes from our wedding.
All you need is a glass vase, a submersible floralyte (they usually come in packs of 10), some red food colouring and some spider shaped party confetti. I have about 8 leftover vases from our wedding centerpieces that I’ll be using that I bought for $6 each at Hot Dollar, the vase shown in this example I go for about $3 I think.

Supplies
I don’t think I even need to write instructions it’s so easy… Put water in the vase with a few drops of food colouring, turn on the light and let it float to the bottom of the vase, then float a few spider confetti pieces on top of the water. Done!

It looks good in the daytime

But much better in the dark!

Hey Mikaela,
I love your halloween idea with the vase!! It’s a cheap yet really effective idea for a table deco. I’m a huge halloween fan and think it’s a shame we don’t celebrate it more down under. Considering Halloween didn’t even ‘originate’ in the US they’re the ones who celebrate it most! I was just wondering if you had any other cool halloween ideas that you’d like to share with me as i’m havin’ another Halloween party this year and am always looking for new and interesting ideas to spice it up a little. Thanks! :)
Elly.

Hi Elly, thanks! Just off the top of my head, a few other things we did was put those fake spiderwebs everywhere (really cheap from Hot Dollar, you only need 1 packet!) and also put black fabric that I already had over the furniture (with the spider webs over the top, very effective). We made punch with “eyeballs” in it (lychees with half olives in them), and I also made my own cake (see in this post: http://mikaeladanvers.com/handmade-diy/halloween-party/).
I hope that gives you some more ideas, have a great party! =)
